The Smithtown Robotics Team is an academic team consisting of students, teachers, parents and mentors who work together to solve a task given to us by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) in conjunction with NASA. Each year, teams from across the country are given the challenge of designing a functioning robot which must perform a specific task set down by the FIRST Organization.
Teams are given six weeks to design, build, and test their working robot. At the end of the six week period the Robotics teams, like sports and other clubs, compete in regional competitions, hoping to make it to the finals. The competitions are located in several locations around the world.
Throughout the years, Smithtown Robotics has entered competitions and has taken home several highly-valued awards and college scholarships for the students. Through this team, students gain technological and scientific knowledge, while enjoying the advantages of having fun.
